You can download macOS Catalina 10.15.3 here: Get macOS Catalina Be careful downloading update files from other sources. The Mac App Store is the best, and usually only, place to download macOS updates.

If your Mac isn't supported still, you could still upgrade to OS X El Capitan. If your Mac doesn't support macOS Catalina, it might be supported by macOS High Sierra, which requires a Mac introduced in 2009 or 2010. The latest version of macOS, macOS Catalina, is supported on any Mac introduced in 2012 or newer. Check what version of OS X or macOS your Mac supports. You'll need at least 8 to 22 GB of free storage space to upgrade to a newer version of OS X or macOS. Make sure that you have enough storage available for a software update. It has other nice features, though, such as raw data output and multi-pass hypersample scanning. The only deficiencies I've found are near the scanning extremes such as fairly small <2" high-res scans and large image full-bed high-res scans.

I've found that it's quality and usuability are not quite as good as Canon's stuff for OS 9, but they are "good enough" for 98% of the owners out there. There is a pretty decent list of supported scanners available. It's scanning software from Hamrick that recognizes a wide range of USB, SCSI, and Firewire scanners, including the 650U series (and my 656U).

They are so similar that the driver would probably work "good enough" just by changing the USB product id it searchs for.Īnyways, what I wanted to mention is the software that I have been using in the meantime: VueScan. The plugin specifically looked for just two or three model types (kernel log reported) before failing. I'm thrilled to hear that there are OS X native drivers for the 650u scanners finally! My hopes were elevated (and later let down) when I saw that Canon came out with OS X native drivers for the 676u.
